This interesting work has been created by the prominent Fedoskino artist, Vladimir Rogatov. Known for his Museum quality compositions, singular in their structure and design, Rogatov displays the ability to take us on a different adventure with each coming work.
The box continues the artist' series of works dedicated to the tsar's army of the prerevolutionary Russia. In this series the artist tries to depict officers and soldiers of the tsar's army historically correct. He pays a special attention to the military uniform and weapon of that period.
The box shows the battle on swords of two riders.
The scene is framed with a copper metal line.
The box is made of papier-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while brown lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four little legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
