Description: Famous Fedoskino Master Sergey Chistov has painted this colorful box. His style is one that can be easily recognized and distinguished from all other Fedoskino painters. He is so popular among collectors that the factory is now instructing artists to reproduce his originals. However, when handling a piece painted by Chistov himself one cannot help but get lost in the fantasy filled style, superb technique, and compositional mastery that he has developed over the years!
The box features a scene from Hans Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale "The Snow Queen". This tale tells about adventures of a little, but very brave girl Gerda. Her friend Kay has been kidnapped by the Snow Queen and she sets out in search of him. Her kind heart and true love to Kay win the evil spell of Snow Queen in the end.
This composition shows the Snow Queen kidnapping Kay, and carrying him to her Ice Kingdom while several spectators are looking at them...
The palette is filled with the tones suitable for reproduction of a winter season. Silver paint highlights the sky.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a wavy platform. The work is signed, and dated (2012) and titled (The Snow Queen) by the artist.
