Description: This box, painted by a well-known artist Viktor Tretiakov shows the traditional theme of a speeding troyka. This tradition sprang from the very beginning of lacquer ware production in Russia when the first lacquer workshops was founded by Peter Korobov in the village of Danilkovo (now Fedoskino). At that time the theme of peasant everyday life was very popular among the painters.
On this box we can see a sleeping (possibly tipsy) coachman in the cart.He is not controlling the horses... And the horses are bringing the cart into a storm. On the background of the composition we can see how the skies are getting darker and darked and they are almost black in the direction the horses move.
Talented Victor Tretiakov has a recognizible style!
The scene is painted in various shades of gray and dark blue oils suitable for reproduction of upcoming storm. Details on a painting are amazing!
Composition is bordered with a golden line. Two parallel gold lines are decorated the sides of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on the four legs. The work is signed by the artist.
