Fedoskino Master,Sergey Kirsanov, is known as a talented landscape painter.
Being enchanted with the beauty of modest Russian nature, he created a series of works painted on this theme. His works are penetrated the feeling of deep love to his native land with its ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, boundless expanses of snow covered fields and evergreen forests.
In the foreground of the composition we see a river bound by ice. On the front there is a wooden church situated on the bank of this river. Background shows us mixed forest consisting of coniferous and deciduous trees, partly covered with the snow!
Grey and rose tones are used here to reproduce the atmosphere of a winter evening. Towering Bank of the river, covered in snow, got the pink hue of the setting sun. Mother-of-pearl is set into the sky to create a golden glow of the sunset.
The painting is framed with a gold line; two parallel gold lines can be also found wrapping around the box's sides.
Sides of the box are also decorated with the imitation of a stone, the mixture of black and grey colours.
The box's exterior is covered with the black lacquer; its interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer. The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name.
