Description: This elegantly-shaped box was painted by the talented Fedoskino artist Fomichyov S.S. The composition shows the famous Russian ballet-dancers Yuliy Medvedev and Marina Leonova dancing in the classic ballet "Love for Love" produced on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater in 1976. This ballet was staged on basis of the music written by Tikhon Khrennikov to the play "Much Ado About Nothing" by William Shakespeare (1936).
The composition is painted against the bright light brown background that in some places changes to the dark brown. This changing creates the depth of the composition, as well as creates the effect of stage illumination. What strikes most in this work is the artist's ability to reflect such difficult feeling as artistic inspiration of dancers and their absorbing in the roles of Duke and Beatrice. Their gestures, positions of their heads and hands reveal their passion to each other. The dancers are dressed in the neatly detailed costumes of medieval fashion painted in red, blue and white tones. Masterful painting technique help the artist to accentuate fragile beauty, plasticity and gracefulness of the ballerina, as well as to show her partner's splendid portraying the character of Duke. A charming vision of the beloved ballet.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The edges of the box's lid and its sides are decorated with elegant gold patterns. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The sides additionally are covered with brown-colored paint with a sprinkling of aluminum paint, black and green oils. The box has a hinge to the left of the composition and rests on a wavy rim. It is signed with the artist's name, the ballet's title and the names of dancers.
Note: This box has been made in the Art Workshop of Sergey Tyurin.
