Description:

This marvelous box was painted by the talented Fedoskino artist Fomichyov S.S. The composition shows the famous Russian ballet-dancers Lyudmila Semenyaka and Andris Liepa dancing in the classic ballet, "The Nutcracker" by Tchaikovsky after the tale of E.T.A.Goffman. They dance on the beautifully decorated stage of the word-known Bolshoi Theatre.
Looking at the composition the viewer can immediately notice the uncanny likeness of the depicted characters and the real artists. It undoubtedly shows the artist's talent of a portraitist. But what strikes most in this work is the artist's ability to reflect such difficult feeling as artistic inspiration of dancers and their absorbing in the roles of Mary and the Nutcracker. Masterful painting technique help the artist to accentuate fragile beauty and gracefulness of the ballerina, as well as to create an elated expression the face of her partner. Very beautiful deep blue color palette of the composition suits perfectly for the reproduction of a magic New Year's night when even an ugly Nutcracker may turn into a handsome Prince. Deep blue background also tones beautifully with the balerina's snow-white, fluffy, almost transparent dress and the bright red costume of her partner. Stage scenery, a Christmas tree and big three-dimensional Christmas-tree decorations, located in the background also remind the viewer that the action takes place during the New Year's night. Color changing from dark blue to light blue creates the effect of stage illumination. Lists of gold foil inlaid in some portions of Andris Liepa's costume shine brightly decorating the box. A charming vision of the beloved ballet.
The oval composition, the edges of the box's lid and its sides are decorated with intricate, elegant patterns painted in aluminum paint. Dark blue oil paint covers the exterior of the box while dark red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The exterior of the box is also covered with free designs of sprinkled aluminum dust for additional decoration. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on a wavy rim. It is signed with the artist's name, village, title and year (2003). There is a secret, small drawer on the front side of the box where you can keep your jewelry.
Note: This box has been made in the Art Workshop of Sergey Tyurin.
