Description: Simple in its design but exquisite in its implementation, this portrait of a Russian girl is an incredible miniature! Andreev A. from Fedoskino has combined brilliant skill with oil paints in shading, coloring, texturing, with a gift for realism, and delicate decoration. This piece is truly a work of art, from top to bottom! The box depicts s a group of peasant girls. They are dressed in plain peasant costumes, and their faces show that they are tired from monotonous, everyday work. Portraits such as these were popular by many well-known artists in 19th century Russia, such as Ivan Argunov's "Portrait of a Peasant Woman in Russian Costume" Nikolai Alexeev's "A Young Girl in Russian Costume", and Konstantin Makovsky's "Boyarina" and "Boyarina Bearing a Tray". These paintings are all on display in art museums in Russia, such as the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The box is made out of paper-mache. The exterior (lid and sides) is covered with green oils and studded with black spots, it looks like the stone of malachite. The interior is traditionally red, the base is covered with black lacquer. The oval scene, the edges of the lid and the sides are covered with beautiful gold ornamentation. The box is hinged from the top of the composition and rests on four legs. The box is signed with the artist's name (Simonova.), village (Fedoskino) and year (2002).
