Description:

This box of museum quality was painted by Eduard Makarov from Fedoskino. As evidenced by this box, Makarov is pioneering new frontiers in lacquer art. His style is unique to Fedoskino and the world, while his skill is already at a master's level without even reaching its peak. He shows his collectors that there are limitless ways to paint, decorate, and construct a work of art.
The work is called "Vision of Nikolay the Wonder Maker", and shows the mystic landscape. In the right part of the composition the artist depicts the figure of one of the most honored Christian Saints in Russia, Nikolay the Wonder Maker, who is known as the guardian of travelers. He stands among thick berry bushes and holds the Gospel in his right hand. In the background there is the small church named after Nikolay the Wonder Maker. This church is located in the village of Fedoskino, it keeps and blesses the unique village where live the talented painters. We can see the houses of painters all around the church. Just behind the church, in the blue sky there are three bows of the bright rainbow. Three angels combined into the Saint Trinity turned into this beautiful three-colored rainbow. The doves hovering in the sky symbolize the Holy Spirit. The atmosphere of this composition is calm and harmonious. Gold fluffs fall down from the skies like the snowflakes. (this information was given to russsianlacquerart.com by the author of this work, E. Makarov).
To paint this composition the artist has used different tones and shades, but blue tones predominated here. The brushwork is very thin giving the scene unparalleled detail. Makarov prefers to make very multi-layered compositions to get a three-dimensional effect and create a dynamic experience for the eye, and this work is no exception. To paint it he has used a great amount of supplementary mediums like mother-of-pearl, gold acryl, gold and aluminum paints, gold and aluminum powder, gold foil, blue powder, and tiny gold and aluminum shapes (stars, rhombs, circles, flowers) that were punched out of a sheet of thin aluminum and gold and placed on the box's sides by hand.
The sides of the box are covered with black lacquer, while the bottom of the box is covered with beautiful patterns made by spraying aluminum dust against the blue background. The interior of the box is decorated with gorgeous designs created by diffusing gold and aluminum dust against the brown background. Two small relief roses also decorate the box's interior bottom. The box rests on four gold metal legs.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The work is singed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the year of 2005, and the title on the box's exterior bottom.<
