This charming small box was created by Vladimir Domakhin. Works painted by V.N. Domakhin are exhibited in the Russian Museum (Saint Petersburg). His works have been also displayed in the international exhibitions in Cyprus, Germany. Many of his artworks are kept in private collections in the USA, Germany and Great Britain. Vladimir works in the realistic style of German classic miniature and Lukutin's miniature. His favorite themes to depict are genre scenes, portraits, horse riding, animals and military full-dress uniform. Here the artist has chosen to depict the soldier dressed in military uniform of the nineteenth century accompanying the girl riding the horse. The scene is painted in warm colors and framed with gold ornamentation. The exterior of the box is covered with original patterns composed of yellow brownish spots scattered on the dark brown background. The interior of the piece is covered with black lacquer that is atypical for a Russian lacquer box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box sits flat. The work is signed by the artist.
