Title: The Bell Ringer
Artist: Yastrebov Oleg
Size: 15x11x4.5
Size (inches): 6x4.25x1.75
Price : $750 SOLD!

This superior Russian lacquer artistry was created by the talented Oleg Yastrebov of Fedoskino. His ability to depict strikingly decorative compositions is second to none.
The work is called "Bell Ringer", and features the boy, a bell ringer, sitting on the fence under the bells and dreaming of something pleasant. In ancient Russian like in many other courtiers bells gave the alarm or announced the beginning of religious feasts.
The scene is painted in gray and white paints against the black background. Gold powder highlights the fence, the roof and the boy's trousers, while aluminum powder is used to highlight the big moon. Multicolored spangles are sprayed throughout the scene for additional decoration.
The scene is framed with a gold band on which the artist painted tiny black patterns. The similar ornamentation can be found on the bottom rim that wraps around the base of the box. The sides of the box and its exterior bottom are covered with original patterns that resemble the stone surface painted by means of gold and aluminum powders.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests on four waving legs. The work is signed, titled ("Bell Ringer"), and dated (2005) by the artist.
