O. Kachalkina, from the village of Fedoskino is the talented artist responsible for this delightful miniature. The artistry engulfs the entire surface of the box in the same way circus energy swarms over the senses. The characters are bright and alive, the palette festive and extensively charming throughout.
The work is called "Masquerade", and features a young lady and a gentleman dressed in fancy dresses. The gentleman bows before the lady, and the lady hides her beautiful face with the fan.
The scene is painted in different shades of blue. Gold metal leaf is used to create the tree and the rainbow located in the background. Gold paint is used to decorate the costumes of the characters. There is a great deal of detailing and color alterations that makes this presentation so dynamic.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while dark red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The sides of the box are decorated with two parallel gold lines. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed and titled by the artist at the bottom of the composition.
