Description: Sergey Knyazev from the village of Fedoskino has a talent to surprise the viewer with his strikingly decorative and detailed works. No doubt this work will easily win the hearts of lacquer miniature enthusiasts.
The box features the beautiful girl dressed in Russian traditional costume looking out of the window and caressing the cat. Looking at this scene the viewer's attention will be immediately focused on the bright multicolored mosaic window and the rich attire of the girl. To create the gorgeous effect of twinkling of various tints on the mosaic window the artist has used two large pieces of mother-of-peal inlaid into each half of the window. The girl's sarafan and white shirt (so called "sorochka") are decorated with gold brilliant ornaments. The splendor of her jewels: pendant ear-ring and necklace; and the gems that adorn her kokoshik is achieved by applying golden spangles. The fragment of a wooden hut and the background behind the girl are highlighted with gold metal powder to add more ornamentality to the piece. The composition is multi-layered and this produces a three-dimensional effect and creates a dynamic experience for the eye.
The scene is framed with multiple of gold threads that form a single gold line decorated with forest plants, flowers, grass and foliage.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino.
Black lacquer mixed with gold dust is used to paint its exterior while red lacquer mixed with bright red spangles completes its interior. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat base. The work is signed, dated (2006) and titled ("Looking out of the window") by the artist in gold paints on the lid's interior.
