Description: This museum quality box was created by the talented Natalya Orlova of Fedoskino. Breathtaking artistry announces this animated perfection. A piece that will intrigue and entertain for many years to come.
Orlova is known for her realistic painting style that incorporates multiple methods of application. The thinness of the painting makes her works easily recognizable. The box, the canvas for rare and pleasurable imagination.
Here we can see the original presentation of the mermaid riding the huge fish. They have almost floated to the surface of the sea, and the figure of the mermaid is illuminated by the bright sunrays falling from above. Her long curling hair is flying away; big whirling bubbles and small silvery fish accompany her. She is the Sea Princess; beautiful, powerful and majestic!
Different shades of blue, as well as white tones are used to develop the setting's watery atmosphere. The fish located in the foreground (from the left of the huge fish) are crafted three-dimensionally. Multicolored spangles create the brilliance of the fish scale. The huge fish is highlighted with aluminum powder. Lustrous silver paint is used to draw the bubbles. The painting extends on the lid's sides. The whimsical water plants depicted on the box's right side are drawn in gold paints. Bright gold band outlines the small platform on which the box rests. The exterior of the box is covered with beautiful ornamentation composed of white blurry spots scattered on the turquoise background. There are four tiny legs on the small platform on which the box rests. They are made of tiny pieces of mother-of-pearl encircled with diminutive gold metal beads. The interior of the box is covered with the similar ornamentation that can be found on the box's exterior, but it is composed of white blurry spots scattered on the light blue background. The round-shaped piece of mother-of-pearl is glued to the box's interior bottom. Several water plants highlighted with gold paints are drawn on it. Among these water plants there is a small metal figurine of a sea horse.
The box stands on the tray shaped in the form of a water lily leaf. The edges of this tray are decorated with gold three-dimensional water-plants; when the box is put on the tray they act like the original frame. The tray is dark blue covered with blue blurry spots, silver bubbles and highlighted with aluminum powder in some places.
The box and the tray are constructed form paper-mache. The box's lid is hinged from the left. The work is signed, titled and dated (2005) by the author.
