Description: Chernykh of Fedoskino paints this portrait of a padre playing the violoncello. It is a perfect example of the Fedoskino realistic style.
This portrait is masterfully executed--tone, shade and light are perfect. Painted in oils, this piece shows three-dimensionality through highlights and shadows. Bold reds are used to paint the padre's robe, while the interior of the chamber is painted in the shades of brown and orange.
Precise execution and fine attention to detail compose the masterful facial expression of the padre. His clothing sings with an enhanced realism. You can sense the concentration which pours from within the eyes of the padre at the moment when he reads music. The chamber's interior is also painted with enhanced detail. The window behind the padre's back provides a panoramic view of outdoors.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The sides of the box are decorated with red and orange tartan patterns outlined with gold paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition. The box rests upon a flat bottom. The work is signed and dated (2005) by the artist in pink oils at the bottom of the composition.
