Title: Deadem from the Field Flowers
Artist: Novoseltseva L.
Size: 7.5x5x2.5
Size (inches): 3x2x1
Price : $850 SOLD!

This small attractive box was painted by Novoseltseva L. from the village of Fedoskino. It features two girls preparing to throw garlands of flowers on the water intending to find out who their future husbands will be. This ritual is usually performed by unmarried girls during the Midsummer Night.
Blue and brown tones predominate here. Mother-of-pearl creates the shining of full moon in the darkness of a warm summer night. Mother-of-peal also sparkles through the girls' festive attire; it can be found in the blue ribbon of the girl depicted on the left, in the garland on the head of the girl painted on the right, and also in the shirts of both girls. Gold paint is used to paint long curling hair of the girl depicted on the right, and to decorate the attire of both girls.
The composition is framed with the elegant pattern composed of gold, silver and blue beads. The similar ornamentation decorates the box's sides. The exterior of the box is covered with black lacquer and dotted with blue veins. It is so called dust resist pattern that perfectly imitates coloring of a stone. The interior of the box is covered with dark red lacquer.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
