Pavel Govorun from the village of Fedoskino created this magnificent paper-mache set that consists of a box that rests on a tray. The box shows an episode from the fairy-tale "Sadko". Sadko is a rich merchant, who sails to faraway lands to sell his goods. To the right from him the artist has painted the face of his wife, Lyubava, who waits patiently for her husband's return.
Most of the composition is painted in blue tones except for the figure of Sadko and the sails painted in red and brown tones. Mother-of-pear shines through the sails and the costume of Sadko. Gold paints are used to detail the ship, to decorate the costumes of the characters, and to highlight the flag fluttering on the top of the ship's mast.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with patterns that consist of tiny figures constructed from silver metallic punch-outs - these are hand punched from the metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. Silver metallic punch-outs also used to outline the edges of the tray. The tray displays a small miniature of a seagull.
The exterior of the box and the tray are covered with blue lacquer. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition. Both the tray and the box are signed with the artist's name, the year of 2006, and the title ("Sadko").
