Title: Fedoskino at Winter
Artist: Papeonov Mikhail
Size: 7.5x5.5x2
Size (inches): 3x2.25x0.75
Price : $650 SOLD!

This beautiful piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Mikhail Papenov of Fedoskino. Here the artist depicts a quiet winter evening in the countryside. The small church rises above cozy peasant houses. Smoke goes up chimneys. Flash of the sunset is reflected on the icy lake. Mother-of-pearl strengthens this beautiful moment. Gold metal powder creates subtle gradations of colors on the sky. Aluminum powder is used to paint smoke coming out of chimneys. Gold metal foil shines through the haystacks, and the fence located in the nearest foreground, creating a beautiful contrast to the lilac-blue tones of the landscape.
The scene is framed with an original pattern of tiny triangles that are constructed from gold metallic punch-outs - these are hand punched from the metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. Gold metallic punch-outs in the form of small starlets also decorate the sides of the box.
The exterior of the box is covered with tiny lilac blue veins scattered against the dark blue background; it has been done to imitate the coloring of a gray marble. The interior of the box is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The box is hinged from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and dated (2006) by the artist on the box's exterior bottom in bright gold paints.
