The established Fedoskino artist Mikhail Shelukhin has created this wonderful box. It features the happy stout girl holding a red rose. In ancient times in Russia stoutness of girls and women was considered as a standard of beauty while slenderness was considered as a sign of some dangerous disease.
The scene is painted mostly in blue tones. Gold metal leaf shines through the ornaments that decorate the girl's sarafan; it also can be found in the jewelry that she wears, in her kokoshnik and in the strings that tighten up her braids.
The scene is framed with a dark blue band outlined with two parallel white lines. The similar band outlines the small platform on which the box rests. The exterior of the box is blue, and dotted with multitude of thin gold and silver threads. The interior of the box is traditionally red.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on a small platform. Signed with the name of the artist, the village of Fedoskino and the year of 2006 at the bottom of the scene.
