This splendid box has been created by A. Vorontsov from the village of Fedoskino. It is based on the religious them and shows the Blessed Virgin saying prayers and her sleeping child. The remote landscape is painted over a layer of aluminum paint that helps to strengthen the colors. Some elements of the composition including the Virgin's attire and the house depicted in the background are highlighted with gold paint. Many kinds of brushstrokes and techniques have been used here to create the necessary effect to bring this composition to life. The amount of attention to all the elements of the scene is incredible. The faces are especially detailed. Intricately painted lace that borders the bed-clothes shows the artist's mastery and impeccable painting technique.
Original gold ornamentation frames the composition.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition. The box rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the artist's name and the year of 2005 at the bottom of the composition in brown paints.
