Description: This splendid box has been painted by Yuriy Mikhalyov from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a picturesque view of St. Petersburg in winter. In the foreground the artist depicted the monument to Nikolay I, whereas in the background we can see the St.-Isaak Cathedral.
The scene is painted in different shades of blue and gray. These tones correspond perfectly for depiction of the city in winter. Mother-of-pearl shines through the sky illuminating the scene from within. A very beautiful visual effect.
The scene is framed with two silver parallel lines; two silver parallel lines can be also found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while radiant red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the title ("St.-Petersburg"), and the year of 2006.
