This portrait of a young Italian woman has been painted by Golubyonkov from the village of Fedoskino. She looks aside pensively; her youth, beauty and peace of soul are naturally reproduced. With the finest strokes possible the artist creates the shine in her hair, the crystal clarity of her eyes, the rose of her skin, the texture of her dress and the shimmer of her jewels. The palette is amazingly close to one that imitates life. The linear movement, shading, and transitioning of colors and variations in tone is great. An enchanting portrait!
The portrait is framed with a very thin gold line. Two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The oval box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests upon a flat bottom. The work is signed by Golubyonkov.
