The talented Fedoskino artist Alexey Otryaskin created this splendid work.
The box depicts the Keeper of Time. The artist imagines him as an old man who lives in the forest, and keeps up the right course of time using an enormous number of clocks.
The scene is painted in various shades of green and brown as the action takes place in the forest. Aluminum paint creates silvery brilliance of the Keeper's attire, some plants, the sky, trunks of some trees, the big sand-glass, and the striking clock painted from the left of the Keeper. Another source of brilliance is a gold metal leaf that shines through all clocks depicted here, as well through the owl's body and through some leaves and plants. While painting the sand-glass and the striking clock, the artist has used mother-of-pearl to imitate glass.
The edges of the lid are decorated with gold beads of various size, while the box's sides are adorned with the gold leafy pattern. The box's exterior is covered with blue oils mixed with gold and silver dust; its interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the title ("The Keeper of Time") and the village of Fedoskino on the box's exterior bottom.
