Description: This is another splendid creation of Alexey Otryaskin from the village of Fedoskino.
The box depicts the forest man taking a bath. Various forest beasts take part in this process. The bear pours water over the forest man, the hare has carried the bucket filled with water, the squirrel and the mouse hold the brush that is used as a bast whisp, and the raven is ready to give the forest man a tooth-brush. The forest man lashes himself with besoms used in Russian baths to induce copious perspiration.
Brown, green, blue and orange tones dominate here. Aluminum paint creates silvery sparkle of water, and soap bubbles; it also highlights the trunks of trees and some plants. Gold paint shines through the bear's fur; it also highlights the trunks of some trees and the faded leaves painted under the bath. Two pieces of mother-of-pearl that shimmer with green orange tones are inlaid within both besoms; mother-of-pearl is also set within the lamp that hangs on the tree.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with attractive gold patterns. The box's exterior is covered with blue oils mixed with gold and silver dust; its interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the title ("The Forest Man") and the village of Fedoskino on the box's exterior bottom.
