This winter landscape is a creation of Yuriy Aldoshkin from the village of Fedoskino. Called "Old Willows", it depicts the early spring landscape. It's obviously March. It is a wonderful time when the sunrays become warmer and warmer, the snow starts melting, and infinite number of streams run swiftly struggling through the melting snowdrifts.
Blue and white tones suitable for depiction of the chosen season predominate here. Gold paint details the trees painted in the middle of the scene.
Gold metal leaf is used to create the golden band that frames the scene, and another golden band that adorns the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box sits flat. Aldoshkin has signed, dated (2006), and titled his work on the lid's interior.
