Title: Village Feast
Artist: Rogatova Marina
Size: 4.5x4x2
Size (inches): 1.75x1.5x0.75
Price : $1100 SOLD!

This small box has been painted by the well-known Fedoskino artist Marina Rogatova whose interesting works are popular among lacquer miniature enthusiasts from all over the world. Marina, and her husband Sergey Rogatov are the folk artists in the full meaning of this world. Folk images in their works acquire the significance of national symbols that had absorbed all the ethical notions of the common people.
The box features the merry village feast. As the action takes place in winter, blue tones dominate here. Aluminum paint shines through the oils creating the silvery brilliance of the snow. Mother-of-pearl is set into the lake to reproduce shimmer of ice. Gold metal leaf is used to detail the costumes of some peasants; gold metal leaf is also used to create the frame around the depicted scene.
The box's sides are decorated with original ornamentation that looks like multicolored patches of material. Peasants use such patches of material to repair their clothes or to make blankets.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the box's exterior bottom; red lacquer is used to cover the box's interior. The lid is hinged from the top of the depicted scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the name of the artist, Fedoskino, and the year of 2003 on the lid's interior.
