Description: This small oval box is a creation of Margarita Belova from the village of Fedoskino. This artist has a reputation of one of the most popular contemporary Fedoskino artists; her works are readily acquired by collectors from different countries. Most of all she likes to paint portraits and romantic scenes.
This box is called "A Russian Dance", and shows two girls dressed in the Russian festive peasant clothes, dancing and waving with kerchiefs. Gold metal leaf is used to detail their sarafans and kokoshniks. Tiny pieces of silver metal leaf scattered on their kokkoshniks and sarafans shine brightly adding luster to the entire scene.
The box's exterior is covered with dark grey paint, and decorated with silver scan patterns (made of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets, and then glued to the box manually). The box's interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name and the title on the lid's interior.
