Description: Alexey Chirkov is the talented Fedoskino artist who painted this alluring box. It is called "Owls in their Nest", and features the mother-owl feeding its nestlings. The bird holds in its beak a dead mouse, but it isn't enough for hungry nestlings. Soon the mother-owl will have to leave its nest again to catch another prey for its little ones.
Mother-of-pearl that shimmers with delicate yellow, pink and green tones is set into the sky to create the moonlight glow of the night sky. Another piece of mother-of-pearl that shines with bright blue, green and lilac tones is set into the blue area the nestlings are painted against. This blue area creates the illusion of the forest badly seen in the darkness of a night. One more piece of mother-of-pearl shimmering with bright golden tones is set into the nest. Aluminum powder highlights the sky; and slightly visible gold paint highlights the trees.
The scene is framed with a wide band painted in gold.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2006 on the box's exterior bottom.
