Nikolaj Zotov ranks as one of the best contemporary masters in Fedoskino. Each of his works is a true masterpiece, unique and unsurpassed.
This box is one of the most beautiful Zotov's creations that we've exhibited on our website. It is globe-shaped, and rests on a separately crafted pedestal. Its theme is based on the Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan". Here we can see the squirrel that cracks golden nuts with emeralds inside and sings songs before amazed Tsar Saltan. The figurine of Princess Swan in her animal form is attached to the top center of the globe.
The characters are painted in pink, blue and lilac tones against the light grey background. Gold paint is used to detail their costumes. Light grey paint is also used to cover the box's exterior and the pedestal it rests on, but this light grey area is studded with dark grey blurry spots that remind spots of diffluent paint. The box's interior is covered with pink paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
