Description: This gorgeous box was painted by the outstanding Fedoskino artist Yuriy Dubovikov. It is one of his latest works as not long ago this great master died. It is an irretrievable loss in the world of lacquer art.
The box is called "Being on the Spree", and features a humorous scene. It is a cold winter night; the full moon floods the snowy expanses with its cold light. The shadows creep dramatically on the ground. The solemn silence is broken by the loud laughter and drunken singing of two peasants driving in the sledge pulled by the horse. They drink vodka, and ignore their wives' requests to come back home.
The artist has splendidly combined deep blue and yellow oils to reproduce the atmosphere in the dark forest lit by moonlight. This effect is strengthened by mother-of-pearl set into the moon, trunks of the trees and the area of ground located in front of the horse. Gold paint creates a source of light in the windows of peasant houses. Gold and silver dust is spread throughout the scene to create a magic glistening of the snow.
Gold line is used to frame the scene, while the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with the artist's name, and the title.
