This attractive small box has been created by the famous Fedoskino artist Yuriy Aldoshkin. It is called "The Last Snow", and features the end of winter in the Russian countryside.
To create a dull atmosphere of a coming evening, the artist has used here white and blue oils. Mother-of-pearl is set into the sky to imitate the glow of the sunset, and its reflection on the mirror like surface of the river.
The box's sides are decorated with a gold line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes its interior. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title and the year of 2006 on the lid's interior. At the bottom of the scene the artist has also written his name and the village of Fedoskino.
