Description: This elegant small box is a creation of Margarita Belova who has a reputation of one of the most popular contemporary Fedoskino artists. Most of all she likes to paint portraits and romantic scenes.
Here the artist has painted an interpretation of the canvas-on-oil painting "A French Woman" by Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky (1839-1915).
The portrait is framed with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads, rhombs, and scrolls hand punched from silver and gold metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the portrait; the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Fedoskino.
