This interesting work was painted by T. Zhulina in 2000. It shows the heroes of the Russian Civil War rushing to the attack, riding their ardent war-horses. The boxes like this one that featured the idealized scenes painted on the historical theme of the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Russian Civil War were very popular during the Soviet era because of political ideology of that time.
For accentuating dynamism and rhythm of the depicted scene, the artist has painted it in bright red and reddish-brown oils against the black background. Gold metal paint is used to enhance various details.
Simple gold wavy pattern frames the scene, and wraps around the box's sides.
Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the name of the artist, the year of 2000, and the village of Fedoskino.
