Description: This box has been painted by Borisova from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the famous St. Basil's Cathedral located on the Red Square. This cathedral has the second name- the Pokrovsky Cathedral that has been chosen as the title for the work. Just in front of the cathedral we can see the monument to Minin and Pozharsky, who inspired the Russians to liberate Moscow from the Polish invaders.
The color palette reflects the winter season and the realistic view of the cathedral. Mother-of-pearl shines through the cathedral's walls strengthening the colors and creating a source of light from within. Gold paint is used to highlight the domes and crosses of the cathedral. Two domes of the cathedral are crafted three-dimensionally.
The scene is framed with a gold line. Two parallel gold lines decorate the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left side of the composition, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed, titled and dated (2006) by the artist.
