Description: This box is a wonderful creation of Andrey Borisov from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a scene from Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale "The Snow Queen". Here the artist has chosen to depict a final moment of the tale when Gerda managed to penetrate into the icy palace of the Snow Queen. She found there her kidnapped brother, Kay, and the Snow Queen sitting on her huge ice throne. Kay was playing with the beautiful ice toys, and didn't recognize Gerda when she addressed to him. Later Gerda embraced Kay, and her hot tears melted the ice in Kay's heart and washed out pieces of the evil mirror from his eyes. In that moment the powerful Snow Queen and her splendid ice palace started to melt. Only true love can make wonders!
Borisov has managed masterfully reproduce the interior of the icy palace. A magic sparkle of the icy throne and the table with a frozen rose on it painted in the right bottom corner of the scene is achieved by mother-of-pearl inlay. Mother-of-pearl also shines through Gerda's clothes.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box's lid and its rear side are adorned with the original ornamentation in the form of silver rays coming from a single dot in the center (it is clearly shown on one of the enlarged photos). The box's sides are decorated with the gold
