Description: This fascinating piece of Russian lacquer artistry was created by Fedoskino master Vladimir Rogatov. The artist dives deep into the waters of originality in composing a superior miniature in rich detail. Rogatov's work is nothing short of superior. His creations frequent many publications exploring the subject of Russian lacquer miniatures.
The box has an original semicircular shape; the painting extends on the whole its exterior except the exterior bottom covered with black lacquer.
The work is called "Winter Day", and shows amusement of the noble ladies and gentlemen in winter. They ski, skate and sledge in the park enjoying the fine winter weather.
To paint this box the artist has used light grey and blue oils mixed with silver powder that helps to reproduce a magic sparkling of the snow. A large, round piece of mother-of-pearl is set into the upper center of the box's lid to imitate the winter sun shining through the dense grey clouds. Another four pieces of mother-of-pearl can be found glittering through the ice, the snow, the sculptures of the winged lions and through the costumes of some characters.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Its interior is covered with red lacquer. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the name of the artist, Fedoskino, the title, and the year of 2006 on the lid's interior.
