Description: Baulina K. from the village of Fedoskino created this magnificent box. It shows a version of the famous painting "The Horse-Rider" painted in 1832 by the outstanding Russian painter Karl Brullov (1799-1852). This masterpiece is exhibited in the Moscow Tretyakov Gallery.
On this painting Brullov depicted the Italian girls, Jovanina Pacciny riding the horse, and her cousin, Amacilia Paccini. Both these girl were the foster daughters of the Countess Samoylova, who was a friend of K. Brullov.
The scene is framed with a gold line; the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name and the title (K. Brullov "The Horse Rider").
