Description:

Chernykh from the village of Fedoskino created a series of works dedicated to catholic clergymen. On out website we've exhibited this artist's work "Padre Playing the Violoncello", and this is another work from this series.
The box depicts the full-length portrait of a padre who came into his sumptuously furnished room, and found that his big white parrot had pushed off the expensive vase filled with flowers from the pedestal. The vase broke into pieces, and the fresh flowers covered the floor.
Here the artist could masterfully reproduce emotions of the padre. Both astonishment and indignation are reflected on his face. The interior of the room is painted with attention to all minute details. The curtains, the floor, the wall-papers, the vases with flowers are so skillfully painted that it's hard to believe this work is a lacquered miniature.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The sides of the box are decorated with gold ornamentation accented with red and white oil paints.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and dated (2007) by the artist.
