Davydova from the village of Fedoskino has created a series of boxes that show butterflies hovering over flowers. This is her one more work from this series.
The box's lid, and its sides show beautifully painted butterflies hovering over red poppies. The same butterflies and various plants can be found decorating the box's interior; one big butterfly is painted on the lid's interior, while another one is drawn on the box's interior bottom.
Gold metal leaf shines brightly through each of the butterflies drawn on the lid, on the sides and on the box's interior.
Both the box's exterior and interior are covered with gold metal powder, and studded with tiny white splashes.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2007.
