This elegant oval box is a creation of Margarita Belova who has a reputation of one of the most popular contemporary Fedoskino artists. Most of all she likes to paint portraits, scenes from peasant life and romantic scenes.
The box shows a loving couple painted against the beautiful winter landscape. The scene is painted in various shades of light blue oils. The costumes of the characters are detailed with gold paint; gold paint is also used to create a light source in the windows of peasant houses. The crowns of the trees and bushes are highlighted with gold powder.
The scene is framed with silver scan patterns (composed of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box). Silver scan patterns can be also found decorating the box's sides. For additional decoration Belova has painted on the box's sides silver snowflakes. The box's exterior is covered with dark blue paint mixed with silver powder; the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene; the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
