This masterful work was created by the talented Sergey Knyazev. It shows the monastery located on the bank of the forest lake.
The composition is painted in blue and lilac tones over a large piece of mother-of-pearl. Mother-of-pearl shines through the river, walls of a monastery and flowers on a bank. Aluminum powder highlights almost every element of the composition. Golden paint creates the brilliance of golden foliage.
The artist makes supreme usage of the overlay method of application. This is done by painting one particular portion of the piece, thinly coating it with clear lacquer and then continuing on with the compositional process. By doing this, the artist creates three dimensional depth, perspective and beautiful texture. Quality of the painting is fantastic!
The composition is framed with an originally painted gold pattern. The sides of the box are adorned by a superb ornamentation formed of multitude of branches and grass covered with golden foliage.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer, the box's exterior is has a gray color. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box has a flat bottom.
Knyazev has signed the interior of the lid. There are the title of the work-- "Monastery in the Forest" , the village name of Fedoskino, the year 2007 and the artist's name.
