This dramatic seascape has been painted by Igor Buzovkin. Here we can see the ships of the British fleet moored in the bay. The sky glows with the setting sun, and its bright golden gleam is reflected on the turbulent water. To make this gorgeous scene look realistic, the artist has painted the sea over gold metal powder that shines beautifully from within.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with a simple gold pattern.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
