Description: This beautiful architectural scene was painted by Fedoskino artist Pavel Govorun.
On this box we can see fragment the famous Novodevichy Convent (“New Maidens Convent”) located in the center of Moscow. Clearly visible from Sparrow Hills (Vorob'evy Gory) the Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524, though most of its present appearance dates from the 17th century. It was here that Boris Godunov was elected tsar, and Peter the Great's power-hungry sister Sophia was imprisoned here as well. The six-tiered ornately-decorated belfry rises 236 feet.. In the background there is the world-renowned University named after Lomonosov.
The walls of the Monastery are white and reflects the Winter season. Predominance of the composition is given to blue and white tones, they are transmitting the tune of a Frosty day. Gold paint is used to create the brilliance of the domes. A piece of mother-of-pearl can be seen through the “walls” of a Convent and the made the box more attractive.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is covered with original blue metallic color. The interior of the box is traditionally red. The painting is framed with a blue line. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2007, and the title (“Novodevichy Convent”) on the bottom side.
