Description: While contemplating this enticing box, the viewer can immediately recognize a unique, painting style of Sergey Knyazev. His works are always bright and festive. They may astonish the viewer with a rich color palette and an original design. His wonderful creations are always pleasant to contemplate.
The box depicts an impressive view of the white-stoned Rostov Kremlin situated in the ancient Russian town of Rostov (first mentioned in the chronicles in 862). The scene is painted over a mother-of-pearl inlay that sparkles from within with a variety of bright tones. Gold and silver paints are used to highlight and detail the drawing. The composition is multi-layered and this produces a three-dimensional effect and creates a dynamic experience for the eye. Fantastically beautiful!
The box's exterior is decorated with the Knyazev style gold ornamentation in the form of scattered golden spots that resemble stars or snowflakes.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino.
Black lacquer mixed with gold dust is used to paint its exterior while red lacquer mixed with gold dust completes its interior. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat base. The work is signed, dated (2007) and titled (“Ancient Rostov”) by the artist in gold paints on the lid's interior.
