Description: The famous and talented Fedoskino artist Yelena Korolyova painted this extravagant box. It shows the nude Indian Princess who poses for the court artist. The brilliantly painted scene is filled with a great number of additional details including the monkey, the swan, the Ethiopian who blows soap bubbles, the drapery covered with innumerable number of folds, the leopard-skin, the column and many other minor elements. The different materials are given different textures. Gold paint is used to paint the Princess's jewelry, to detail the artist's costume and to highlight the monkey's fur. If you look at this scene attentively you will notice an interesting detail - Korolyova has managed to achieve the illusion that the artist's figure moves by doubling his figure. This method is used widely in making of animated cartoons. Very interesting work that is painted on the unhackneyed theme using the methods that have never been used by Russian lacquer miniature artists.
The composition is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are adorned with two parallel gold lines. The black lacquered exterior of the box is decorated with very thin and tiny light blue and red veins. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is made out of paper-mache. It has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
