The outstanding Fedoskino artist Alexey Chirkov painted this beautiful box. Alexey is fond of owls, and he has already created a series of works dedicated to these enigmatic birds of prey. This is another work from this series.
The box shows the realistically painted Snowy Owl (or ‘White Polar Owl') with its nestlings. The scene is painted over the gold background that helps to create the compositional depth. Pieces of mother-of-pearl that have greenish, blue, violet and pink undertones shimmer magically through the stones.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the year of 2007 and the title (“The Snowy Owl”) on the box's exterior bottom.
