Alexey Chirkov is the talented Fedoskino artist who painted this alluring box. It continues the artist's ‘owl series', and shows the Hawk Owl peeping out of the hollow. The owl is painted in the realistic style over the gold background. The trunk of the tree is highlighted with silver paint. The area of the lid that is free from painting, and the box's sides are decorated with tiny gold stars, triangles, circles, dots and various whimsical figures.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino, the year of 2007 and the title (“The Hawk Owl Peeping Out of the Hollow”) on the box's exterior bottom.
