Description: This charming box has been painted by Tretyakov from the village of Fedoskino.
The Russian aristocrats of the eighteenth century have gathered in the park to amuse themselves. The eighteenth century is known as the Age of Enlightenment, and a kind of their amusement corresponds to the fashion of that epoch. Some of the ladies and gentlemen depicted here look through the telescope, the others contemplate the globe or talk discussing the recent scientific inventions.
The box's exterior is decorated with elegant ornaments painted in gold and silver paints and accented with turquoise oils.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
