Description:

This small oval box has been painted by T. Volodina from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a fragment from the tale “The Princess and the Pea” written by Hans Christian Andersen, and first published in 1835. In Russian this tale is known as “The Princess on a Pea Nut”.
The scene is painted in various shades of blue oils. Gold paint details the costumes of the characters. Mother-of-pearl shines through the dress of the princess.
The box's exterior imitates the coloring of turquoise while the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the year of 2006 and the title.
