This enchanting box is a creation of Davydova from the village of Fedokino. Both the box's exterior (including the exterior bottom), and the box's interior (including the lid's interior and the interior bottom) show bright fragile butterflies hovering over lovely wild flowers. Gold metal leaf shines brightly through each of the butterfly depicted here. The dimensional treatment of the flowers, and a gold metal leaf inlay add depth. Dark blue tone of oils has been chosen as a background for the depicted scenes. This dark blue background is studded with tiny white dots.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Although the work isn't signed, it's very easy to recognize the distinctive style of Davydova. Brilliantly done!
