Description: This heavenly piece of exquisite Russian artistry was composed by the talented Sergey Knyazev from the village of Fedoskino. The box continues the artist's series of works dedicated to old Russian town, and shows a picturesque view of the town of Suzdal.
Suzdal being one of the oldest Russian towns is an important tourist center nowadays. It features many fine examples of old Russian architecture — most of them churches and monasteries.
The scene is painted in the recognizable Knyazev's style in radiant oils over sparkling silver powder. Large pieces of mother-of-pearl that shimmer with delicate green, and pink undertones shine brightly through the sky, the trees, the river and some of the cathedrals. Some elements of the composition as cupolas of the cathedrals, the grass and the trees painted in the foreground are drawn in gold paint. Silver powder, mother-of-pearl and gold paint also help to fill the composition with three dimensional depth.
The scene is outlined with Knyazev's style gold frame. The box's exterior is covered with black lacquer mixed with gold powder, and decorated with golden stars drawn with a very thin brush. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat base. The work is signed, dated (2007) and titled (“Suzdal”) by the artist in gold paints on the lid's interior.
